Probation and Dismissal are to be taken seriously within the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District. The following is an explanation of what Probation and Dismissal means, and how to get reinstated should you find yourself dismissed.

Academic Probation
Any student who has attempted a minimum of 12-semester units and whose cumulative
college grade point average falls below 2.0 in courses receiving letter grades for
work attempted at a college within the district shall be placed on academic probation
at the college where the units were attempted.
Lack-of-Progress Probation
Any student who has enrolled in a cumulative total of at least 12-semester units at
a college in the district shall be placed on probation when the student's cumulative
units indicate 50 percent or more units of W, I, and/or NP at the college where the
units were attempted.
Removal from Probation
Any student placed on academic probation shall be removed from probation when the cumulative grade point average at the college where the student has been on probation has improved to 2.0.
Any student placed on lack-of-progress probation shall be removed from probation when the cumulative units of W, I, or NP recorded at the college where the student has been on probation are less than 50 percent of the total units attempted.
Any student dismissed from a college within the District may not attend any college within the District during the next two consecutive primary terms. The student may, however, attend the Summer session.
Academic Dismissal
Any student on academic probation whose semester grade point average falls below 2.0
in all units attempted in each of 3 consecutive semesters shall be academically dismissed.
Any student on academic probation whose semester grade point average equals or exceeds
2.0 but whose cumulative grade point average for all units attempted remains below
2.0 shall be continued on probation.
Lack-of-Progress Dismissal
If, at the end of the third consecutive semester in which the student earned a cumulative GPA of less than 2.0 or whose cumulative records show the percentage of units is W, I or NP is greater than 50%, the student will be dismissed. A notice that the student is dismissed will be sent to the student informing him/her that he/she is dismissed.
Note: Any student believing to be unjustifiably dismissed and has documentation to support it, may file a petition with the Admissions and Records Office requesting that such dismissal is reconsidered.
