Choose a General Ed Pattern

There are two General Ed patterns transfer students choose from:

1) CSU GE (California State University General Education Breath): appropriate for students planning to apply to any of the 23 campuses in the California State University system.

Access the 2024-2025 CSU GE Advising Form

2) IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum): can be used to satisfy lower division general education requirements at any CSU or UC campus.  Students planning to apply to any of the 9 campuses in the University of California system should follow IGETC.  In addition, some private schools accept IGETC (check with a Counselor for more information).

Access the 2024-2025 IGETC Advising Form

Please note: It is important that when selecting classes you use the current GE pattern.  If you need to access a pattern from a previous academic year please access our CSU GE Archive or IGETC Archive.

Determine Major Preparation

Major prep refers to the lower division coursework you will take at the Community College in preparation for transfer.  The courses you will take depend on the: 1) major you select and 2) university you plan to attend.  Major prep does change depending on the university; therefore, if you are planning to apply to multiple universities, it will be important to identify the major prep required by each campus.

Assist.org is an important website for students planning to transfer to a UC or CSU campus.  It is important that you, as a transfer student, learn how to use this website and check it each semester.

Students pursuing an ADT (Associate Degree for Transfer) will follow the major prep as outlined in the catalog and advising sheet to prepare for transfer.  You can learn more about the ADT and requirements on our AA-T/AS-T/ADT website.

If your major is TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) this means that you will be guaranteed admission after meeting specific eligibility criteria including major preparation.  Talk with a Counselor to learn more.
