EOPS
Extended Opportunity Programs and Services

Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) is here to make sure students disadvantaged by social, economic, educational or linguistic barriers get the resources they need to enroll and succeed at any California community college. How? By offering comprehensive academic and support counseling, financial aid and other services aimed at retaining students and helping them reach their educational and career goals. 

 

CARE
Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education

The CARE program offers additional support services so students can transition from welfare dependency by securing the education, training, and marketable skills needed for self-sufficiency and upward social mobility. 
Available to students who are single parents receiving public assistance.

 

NextUp

Cooperating Agencies Foster Youth Educational Support

Program that supports current or former foster youth enrolled in California’s community colleges. Next Up/Guardian Scholars offers a range of services and resources to help current and former foster youth increase their confidence and ability to become successful, college-educated individuals.

Deadline to Apply: FEBRUARY 7, 2025

 

Students must meet all of the following EOPS criteria at the time of submitting the EOPS application:

  • Must be a CA resident
    OR
    Qualify for CA residency under AB540
  • Completed the FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application for the current academic year
  • Qualify for the CA Promise Grant - Formerly BOG 
    Method A, B, or C with zero Expected Family Contribution
  • Full-time student enrolled in at least 12-units
        - Waitlisted courses will NOT fulfill this requirement
        - Students with disabilities who are enrolled in less than 12 units may submit a Reduced Load Recommendation Form completed by an A.R.C. counselor. Email form requests to grossmont.eops@gcccd.edu with "Reduced Units" as the subject line.
  • Completed less than 70-degree applicable college units at the time of applying to EOPS AND Not have earned an associate degree or higher
    • Must have all official college transcripts for college credits earned from other institutions on file in Admissions & Records before EOPS application is processed

     

AND one or more of the following:

  • A demonstrated educational disadvantage
  • A member of an underrepresented group targeted by Grossmont College's equity goals
  • Graduated high school with a GPA below 2.5
  • Previously enrolled in basic skills or remedial education courses in high school or a former college
  • English is not the first-language spoken at home
  • First generation-college student
    (Neither parent or legal guardian have attained a college education)
  • Current or former foster youth
  • Homeless or at-risk of being homeless

 


 

Only current EOPS, CARE, and/or NextUp students may receive Counseling Services from our counselors.

1st Contact/Counseling Appointment = Schedule 1 Hour

2nd & 3rd Contact/Counseling Appointment = Schedule 30-minutes 

 

Appointments may be via On-Campus or Online Zoom.

When do I apply for EOPS?

Application periods

Fall Semester: July - August

 

Spring Semester: December - January

 

Students who are eligible for CARE and/or NextUp may apply year-round

 

 

What are the eligibility requirements needed to apply for EOPS?

Students must have a current Grossmont College application on file, be enrolled full-time, and have completed the FAFSA application or CA Dream Act Application before they fill out an EOPS application.

When will I know if I have been admitted into EOPS?

 

Timeline

 

Spring 2025 Application:
You will receive an email from grossmont.eops@gcccd.eduinforming you of your status between mid-January and early-February 2025 (or earlier).

 

Fall 2025 Application:

You will receive an email from grossmont.eops@gcccd.eduinforming you of your status between mid-August and early-September 2025 (or earlier).

Please note, if you are eligible for the EOPS program, you will be required to attend a mandatory orientation before you are fully admitted to the program.
