Students in emergency situations may be eligible for our emergency housing services through the Grossmont College Basic Needs Office. Our services range from either emergency or transitional housing options. Emergency housing situations are often those consisting of safety concerns, unforeseen housing displacements, and other crisis situations. These resources exist to support students in emergency situations only and are triaged through a needs-based assessment.
Services are differentiated through the following categories:
Emergency/Temporary: indicates that a student is in immediate need of housing due to a crisis situation & does not have a secure long-term housing plan
Transitional: indicates that a student is in between housing accommodations and needs short-term support until their long-term plan can be ready
Emergency housing is short-term (30 day maximum stay) for students facing imminent loss of housing or currently unhoused. Eligibility, length of stay, and location placement is determined upon assessment of emergency housing needs.
Purpose: Support students in emergency housing situations only and comprehensively support them towards a more stable housing plan.
Emergency housing situations are often those consisting of:
Safety concerns
Unforeseen housing displacements
Staying/Sleeping in a car or public place
Other crisis situations
Transitional housing is short-term (14-day maximum stay) for students facing imminent or expected housing displacement. Eligibility, length of stay, and type of service is determined upon a needs-based assessment.

Staff advocates are employees who have been designated as the initial points of contact for homeless youth. The goal of our Advocates is to ensure that homeless youth receive appropriate services and guidance to support their success in college.
Staff Advocates are responsible for understanding the provisions of the Higher Education Act pertaining to Financial Aid eligibility of current and prospective students, including unaccompanied homeless youth. They also identify and inform students of available and appropriate services (campus and community), including student Financial Aid and other assistance programs.
