IMPORTANT- Orthopedic Technology Students

Please be aware that students accepted to the program at Grossmont College are required to undergo a background check and a urine drug screening test before starting the program or being placed at a clinical site. The cost of these procedures may be $75 - $125. The student will be responsible for paying these fees.

It should be noted that failure to pass either or both of these procedures may interfere with clinical placement and/or acceptance of the student into the Ortho Tech Program.

Background Check/Drug Screen

ALL Orthopedic Technology students will be required to complete a background check and urine drug screenTHIS IS A HOSPITAL/HEALTH CARE AGENCY REQUIREMENT.

The day of your urine drug test,
DO NOT drink more than 8 oz. of any liquid. If you drink an excessive amount of liquid prior to conducting your urine drug screen, the results will be diluted and / or altered and therefore incomplete. If your drug screen results come back dilute, you will not be able to be placed in clinical settings therefore, you will be ineligible to enter the Orthopedic Technology Program.

Important:
Any prior conviction of a misdemeanor or felony may influence eligibility for licensure as a Orthopedic Technologist. A flagged background check or drug screen may also prohibit entrance and / or participation in the Orthopedic Technology Program. Applicants with prior convictions are required to contact the Dean of Allied Health and Nursing for confidential advisement and planning prior to applying to the program.

If you feel that you might not be eligible for licensure due to a prior arrest or conviction, please contact the Grossmont College Allied Health and Nursing Department to speak with the Dean. To make an appointment with the Dean, please call (619) 644-7149 to discuss your options.
