Orthopedic Technology Program Description

Grossmont College's Orthopedic Technology program is the first in the country to be awarded NAOT-Recognized status by the National Association of Orthopedic Technologists. Students who graduate from an NAOT-Recognized program are immediately eligible to take the NBCOT certification examination.

The one-year program is designed to provide Orthopedic Technology graduates with lifetime professional skills in a rapidly expanding healthcare field. All of the courses are offered on campus at Grossmont College in the evening and clinical rotations are completed at local hospitals and clinics.

What is an Ortho Tech?

Orthopedic Technologists are allied health professionals who assist Orthopedic Surgeons in the treatment of patients in a variety of healthcare environments. They are employed in hospitals, clinics, and private practice offices.

Orthopedic Technologists apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints, and braces. They also set up, adjust, and maintain traction configurations, assist with the care of acutely injured patients, and assist the physician in the reduction and/or manipulation of orthopedic injuries.

Degree Options

Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to receive a Certificate of Achievement from Grossmont College and to sit for the NBCOT certification exam. In addition, the student has the option to also pursue an Associate of Science Degree in Orthopedic Technology which requires successful completion of the program along with all required general education requirements from the college. Refer to the current college catalog for specifics.
