SEXUAL ORIENTATION/GENDER IDENTITY (SOGI student club)
Meeting Times: TBD
Where: TBD
Advisors: Joel Castellaw and June Yang
Purpose: The purpose of SOGI is to create a safe and open community and provide space for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, queer, intersexed, and asexual people (LGBTQIA) and their allies, as well as other students that identify as non-heteronormative. SOGI endeavors to create a safe space for students to express and explore their identity without judgment, where they can be their full authentic selves, and receive peer support. The club strives to promote diversity and cultural awareness through meetings and activities and by challenging cultural norms that result in oppression.

The goal of the Safe Zone Ally Program is to provide a welcoming environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual and/or ally (LGBTQQIAA) persons by establishing an identifiable network of supportive persons who can provide support, information and a safe place for LGBTQQIAA persons within our campus community. Those who have committed to being Safe Zone Allies indicate that bigotry and discrimination, specifically regarding LGBTQQIAA persons, are not tolerated.
Look for the Grossmont College Safe Zones logo throughout campus. It identifies a person who has completed the on-campus LGBTQQIAA Safe Zone Ally Training and has pledged their commitment to supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer, intersex, asexual and ally people.
