Coping in Crisis

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention acknowledge that this outbreak is stressful. You may need help coping, and there are many resources available to support you at this time.

The California Youth Crisis line runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week: 800-843-5200. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline provides confidential assistance to anyone in crisis and their loved ones through a live chat and free 24-hour hotline at 800-273-8255. You can also text the Crisis Text Line at 741741.

If you feel unsafe at home, help is available through the National Domestic Violence Hotline. Text LOVEIS to 22522 for 24/7 help in English or Spanish. If you can't call, visit TheHotline.org to get immediate help with the 24/7 "Chat Now" feature. You are not alone.

Unemployment

California’s Employment Development Department maintains a list of resources that people can receive while going through the unemployment process. La página también está disponible en español

Undocumented individuals with a valid SSN may apply for unemployment. There are also a number of resources available to you under federal and California law

If you have lost your job and don't have an SSN, the state is now accepting applications for the Disaster Relief Assistance for Immigrants (DRAI). To apply for DRAI benefits, you must call Jewish Family Services of San Diego at 858-206-8281 (San Diego County) or 760-206-3242 (Imperial County); Jewish Family Services of San Diego is the designated nonprofit providing application services in San Diego and Imperial counties.

Additionally, One Fair Wage assists tipped workers and service workers ineligible for unemployment insurance either due to their immigration status or their hours and/or longevity at the restaurant are not enough to qualify them for unemployment insurance.

Health Care Options

Lost your job due to the coronavirus? Here are your health care options in California.

Anyone uninsured and eligible to enroll in health care coverage through Covered California can sign up through the end of June.

In California, you have the right to medical care regardless of your immigration status. There are a number of organizations that can assist:
