Empowering Students to Succeed

The Success Coach Program focuses on student retention and early intervention by partnering with faculty and staff to identify students facing challenges. Our goal is to connect these students with the resources and support they need to overcome obstacles and stay on track academically.

College can be a difficult time for students, and finding the right help isn’t always easy. Through a strong network of on- and off-campus resources, we aim to provide students with the guidance they need before they fall too far behind or consider leaving school.

When to Reach Out to a Success Coach

Success Coaches are here to support students who may be struggling to navigate college life. Consider reaching out when:

  • A student is having difficulty adjusting to the college environment.
  • You're unsure where to direct a student for help with a specific concern.
  • A student is showing signs of academic challenges, such as excessive tardiness, absences, poor performance, or lack of preparation.
  • A student shares personal struggles (e.g., work, family, financial issues) that are affecting their ability to learn.
  • A student could benefit from additional support or access to resources to succeed.

Important Note: Success Coaches are not equipped to handle immediate crises. For mental health emergencies, contact a Mental Health Counselor in Student Health Services at 619-644-7192 or email Matthew Ring. For life-threatening emergencies, call 911. For campus non-emergencies, dial 619-644-7800.

Let’s work together to connect students to the right resources at the right time!

  • Guide students in navigating and accessing the most appropriate on-campus and community support services for their specific needs.
  • Equip students with best practices for organizational and time management skills to support their success.
