Cardiovascular Technology

Vision Statement

Academic excellence through student-centered learning in a creative, supportive environment.

Mission Statement

The Cardiovascular Technology Department will provide competency-based education which links theoretical, professional, and ethical concepts to clinical practice in order to prepare graduates for the world of work and life-long learning.

The CVT faculty is committed to the philosophy of Grossmont College with special emphasis on student-centered learning, and to the premise that Cardiovascular Technology is a "profession," and those who enter clinical practice are accountable for their actions and continued professional growth. Teaching strategies are designed to promote critical thinking, an attitude of inquiry, personal responsibility, a commitment to keep pace with the evolution of the field of practice, and sharing professional knowledge.

A multimedia approach to education is utilized when possible in order to accommodate variations in learning styles, and to provide an environment which stimulates, supports, and challenges the student. Emphasis is placed on self assessment, evaluation, and motivation throughout the student's progress through the program. It is expected that students assume responsibility for their learning and contact the appropriate faculty if academic difficulty occurs. The specific needs of individual students are of concern to the faculty, and a wide range of resources designed to promote student success are provided.
